Fix a problem with the install
Find the message that you see, or what does not happen, in the part of the install where you are. Each entry says what to do, and where in the install to go back to.
When your problem is not here, open an issue with the step, what you see, and the message of Xcode or Terminal. A screenshot helps: check first that it does not show your PRIM key.
The Terminal steps fail
Section titled “The Terminal steps fail”-
make: command not found, git: command not found, or a window asks to install the command line developer tools. Click Install, wait for it to end, and run the command again. The tools come with Xcode, so check that Xcode is installed and opened once. -
xcodebuildsays that Xcode is not selected, or that its license is not accepted. Run these two commands, which ask for your Mac password, then runxcodebuild -versionagain:Fenêtre de terminal sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developersudo xcodebuild -license accept -
brew: command not foundafter you installed Homebrew. The end of the Homebrew install prints a Next steps list: run the lines it shows, then open a new Terminal window. -
make setupormake generatestops withFAILED:. The message names the setting ofios/Config/Local.xcconfigto fix. Fix it, save the file, and run the command again. -
The last line of
make generateshowscom.exampleas your prefix. Your prefix is not saved: openios/Config/Local.xcconfig, check the lineTROME_BUNDLE_ID_PREFIX, save, and runmake generateagain. Do it before you click Run, or Xcode tries to registercom.example. -
The command that finds your Team ID shows nothing. Xcode did not save the team. Open the project, choose the team again in Signing & Capabilities, and quit Xcode with Cmd + Q, then run the command again.
Xcode will not sign the app
Section titled “Xcode will not sign the app”- You see no Personal Team in Xcode > Settings > Apple Accounts. Select your account, click − to remove it, and add it again. Check that the Mac has the internet.
- Xcode shows a Set Up Signing button instead of the Team menu.
Click it. In the window, choose Your Name (Personal Team) in the Team menu, and type your prefix followed by
.trome.devin Bundle Identifier, for exampleio.github.janedoe.trome.dev. Then click Set Up. - Xcode says “Signing for … requires a development team”.
The Team ID is not in
ios/Config/Local.xcconfig, or you did not save the file. Check the file, quit Xcode, runmake generate, and open the project again. - Xcode says that the app identifier “cannot be registered to your development team because it is not available”.
Someone else uses your prefix.
Choose another one in
ios/Config/Local.xcconfig, quit Xcode, runmake generate, and open the project again. Each new prefix costs 2 App IDs of your 10 (why). - Xcode says that your team has no devices. Connect your iPhone, unlock it, and trust the Mac: Xcode then registers it.
- Xcode says “Your maximum App ID limit has been reached” or “No profiles for … were found”. Your free Apple ID registered 10 App IDs in the last 7 days. Wait some days, or reuse the App IDs that your Mac already has.
- Signing & Capabilities shows an error for Release, for example a missing provisioning profile. This is on purpose: leave it. Release is the build for the App Store, and Xcode never signs it for you. The Run button builds Debug, so the app still goes on your iPhone.
Xcode does not see your iPhone, or Developer Mode is missing
Section titled “Xcode does not see your iPhone, or Developer Mode is missing”- The iPhone does not show in Xcode. Unlock the iPhone, and try another cable: some cables carry power only. Open the Device Hub from the run destination menu, and click Pair if you see it. Restart the iPhone, then connect it again.
- You tapped “Don’t Trust” by mistake. Unplug the cable and connect it again: the question comes again. When it does not, open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy on the iPhone. This also resets the location and privacy choices of your other apps.
- You cannot find Developer Mode in Settings. It shows only after the iPhone has been connected to Xcode. Connect the iPhone, open the project, open the Device Hub, then look again.
- Xcode says “Developer Mode disabled”. Turn on Developer Mode in Settings > Privacy & Security, and restart the iPhone (the steps).
- Xcode says that the iOS platform or “device support” is not installed. Click Get in the message, or install it in Xcode > Settings > Components, and wait for the download to end. Apple’s help: Downloading and installing additional Xcode components.
- Xcode says that the iPhone is busy or “preparing”. Wait: the first time, this can take 10 minutes or more.
The app does not install, or does not open
Section titled “The app does not install, or does not open”- The app does not open the first time, or the iPhone says “Untrusted Developer”. Trust yourself on the iPhone: the steps.
- The trust screen says “Not Verified”, or asks for the internet. Connect the iPhone to the internet, open the same screen, and tap Verify App.
- Xcode says that the maximum number of apps for free development has been reached. A free Apple ID allows only a few apps from Xcode on one iPhone at a time. Delete another app that you installed from Xcode, then click Run again.
- Xcode shows a Register button, or says that your iPhone is not registered. Open Signing & Capabilities and click Register, then click Run again.
- Xcode says “Build input file cannot be found” or “Cannot find … in scope”.
The Xcode project is older than the code, for example after a
git pull. Quit Xcode, runmake generate, and open the project again. - The Mac asks for your password each time you click Run. Type your Mac password and click Always Allow, not Allow.
The app stopped opening after some days
Section titled “The app stopped opening after some days”The 7 days of your free Apple ID have ended. Renew the app: it takes about 5 minutes.
The app runs, but something is wrong
Section titled “The app runs, but something is wrong”- The Testing tools say “Train data key: not set”.
Open the project of the folder
~/trome, which holdsios/Config/Secrets.xcconfig, and click Run again. When it still says “not set”, choose Product > Clean Build Folder in Xcode, then click Run again. The key steps show the file. - The Live Activity shows no train times. Without a key, the app has no real times: add your key. See an example shows sample times with no key.
- The app cannot find the nearest station, the main screen shows Location as off, no notification comes near a station, or Live Activities are off. Help lists each case with its fix, for the iPhone settings of TROME.
- The app shows “Fake position” in orange. You turned on a fake position in the Testing tools: open them and tap Use the real GPS.
